Wise Old Owl

Preschoolers have been singing the echo song, "Wise Old Owl."  We have loved singing to our stuffed animal owl and creating our own motions to go along with this song.

Echo songs teach students to find their singing voice, match pitch, and gain independence in their singing.  We start by having the whole class echo the teacher and will eventually move to individual students echoing the teacher.

Here are the lyrics.  Can you echo your child?

One of these days (one of these days)
Look up and see (look up and see)
A wise old owl (a wise old owl)
Sitting in a tree (sitting in a tree).

He’ll look at you (he’ll look at you)
And he’ll look at at me (and he’ll look at me).
Those two big eyes (those two big eyes)
They don’t scare me (they don’t scare me).

One of these nights (one of these nights)
When raindrops fall (when raindrops fall)
He’ll give a hoot, (he’ll give a hoot),

He’ll give a call (he’ll give a call).

You will notice that some of our preschoolers have found their singing voices already and some are still emerging singers. We will continue exploring our voices until all students are able to find their singing voices.
